Insulation & Backer Boards
Insulation and tile backer boards that keep the heat going up into the room. Lay them under electric mats or tiles to cut warm-up times, and use foil rolls and grid membrane under screed systems. Order by 12pm for next working day UK delivery.
Insulation and tile backer boards for underfloor heating
Good insulation under underfloor heating does two jobs. It sends the heat up into the room instead of down into the subfloor, which cuts warm-up times and running costs. It also gives a flat, stable base for the heating and the floor finish. This is especially important for electric systems over a cold concrete slab, where a lot of heat would otherwise be lost downwards.
Tile backer boards.
- Cement-coated XPS: light, easy to cut and insulating, with a surface that takes tile adhesive straight on.
- 6mm cementitious fibre board: a thin, rigid backer for timber floors and walls that need a stable surface.
For screed systems.
- Reflective foil insulation roll goes over the main floor insulation, with a printed grid that makes pipe spacing simple.
- Grid membrane does the same job on other substrates.
- Edge insulation strip goes around the perimeter so the screed can expand without cracking.
Fix boards with tile adhesive and mechanical fixings, or bond them quickly with spray contact adhesive. Our running costs guide shows how much difference insulation makes.
