Heat Pump Connection
Parts for connecting underfloor heating to a heat pump. Heat pumps run at low flow temperatures, so a non-mixing pump set is usually all you need between the heat pump and the manifold. Order by 12pm for next working day UK delivery.
Connecting underfloor heating to a heat pump
Heat pumps and underfloor heating are a natural match. A heat pump is most efficient at low flow temperatures, typically 35–45°C, and underfloor heating is designed to heat a room from exactly that kind of water temperature across a large surface. Together they give comfortable, even heat at low running cost.
Why a non-mixing set? On a boiler, the water leaving the boiler is too hot for the floor, so a blending valve mixes it down. On a heat pump, the flow is already at floor temperature, so no mixing is needed. A non-mixing pump set simply circulates water around the manifold and keeps the underfloor circuit hydraulically separate. It's usually used with a buffer or low-loss header, as the heat pump manufacturer specifies.
Pump options. Choose a set with a Grundfos UPM3 Flex, Wilo or Bastion A-rated pump, or without a pump if you're supplying your own. The Grundfos version comes pre-assembled and tested.
Design matters. Heat pump systems usually need closer pipe centres and well-insulated floors to deliver enough heat at low water temperatures. Our heat pump UFH guide covers flow temperatures and pipe spacing, and MaxHeatUFH ProLoop can design the layout from your plan.
