London full ground floor: foil-faced XPS panels with MLCP pipe

MaxHeatPro foil-faced panel build-up

Another London ground floor, this time using foil-faced panels. The foil spreads heat sideways from the pipe, giving an even surface temperature from a very thin build-up.

The system

  • Floor system: 20mm foil-faced XPS underfloor heating panels
  • Pipe: 16mm MLCP (multilayer composite) pipe (UFH pipe)
  • Controls: Wireless Heatmiser app-controlled thermostats (wireless thermostats)

Foil-faced or cement-faced?

Foil-faced panels are light and quick to lay, and the foil helps heat spread. They need a suitable layer over the top before most floor finishes. Cement-faced boards cost a little more, but tiles can go straight on. Both suit renovations and new builds where height is limited.
