For a new or dug-out ground floor, pipe-in-screed is still the most cost-effective and best-performing way to fit underfloor heating. This Northwich project used the simplest version: pipe clipped directly to the floor insulation, then screeded over.
The system
- Floor system: Pipe-in-screed, pipe clipped directly to the insulation
- Pipe: 16mm PERT-AL-PERT multilayer pipe (UFH pipe)
- Finish: Installed ready for screeding
Why clip to insulation
Clipping the pipe straight to the insulation boards is quick to fit, needs no extra panels and keeps material costs down. Once screeded, the slab spreads heat evenly and holds it, giving steady, comfortable warmth. Multilayer PERT-AL-PERT pipe holds its shape when laid, so loops stay neat and on their centres.
